About Binaytara
Binaytara is a global oncology non-profit organization dedicated to reducing disparities in cancer care through oncology education, implementation science research, and scholarly publishing. Binaytara provides continuing education to physicians, pharmacists, and nurses and organizes over 60 CME/CE-accredited oncology conferences across the United States; develops cancer programs in under-served communities; conducts implementation science research to improve cancer care delivery; leads advocacy to improve access to cancer care; and publishes educational content through platforms such as OncoBlast, the International Journal of Cancer Care and Delivery (IJCCD), and The Cancer News.
About Your Team
The Communications Assistant will join our Marketing and Communications Team, including our Director of Marketing and Communications, Assistant Marketing Manager, Assistant Communications Manager, Digital Marketing Specialist, as well as part-time staff and interns all working together in our US headquarters in Bellevue, WA. We also have remote editorial board volunteers made up of cancer doctors to help write and review content, a communications consultant based in Kathmandu, Nepal to help with international media pitches, a six-person tech team working remotely including a UX designer, and staff at our Binaytara Health Clinic in Janakpur, Nepal who helps provide impact data, photography, stories and interviews of patients and staff from our global health programs in Nepal.
Position Summary
The Communications Assistant plays a vital role in strengthening written donor communications and brand messaging for Binaytara’s mission to promote equitable access to cancer care. This position focuses on writing compelling content that inspires giving and deepens donor engagement.
With support and collaboration from the Development Team and the Marketing and Communications Team, the Communications Assistant will help write and edit communications across channels—including website copy, newsletters, fact sheets, event materials, direct mail letters, donor cultivation and stewardship letters, impact reports, fundraising campaign copy, patient stories, social media posts, and blog articles.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven and persuasive writer who understands how to craft messages that resonate with donors and motivate them to support health equity in cancer care.
Key Responsibilities
Copywriting & Donor Communications
- Write persuasive and engaging fundraising appeals, campaign messaging, and donor stewardship materials for email, social media, direct mail, and other channels.
- Create compelling stories and cases for support that highlight Binaytara’s impact in cancer care, advocacy, research, and education.
Digital Engagement
- Collaborate on the creation of email campaigns, online fundraising content, social media campaign copy, blog posts, and web copy that align with campaign goals, donor interests, and the organization’s brand voice.
- Work with the Assistant Marketing Manager to create and send email communications using an email marketing tool.
Donor Stewardship
- Write acknowledgment letters, donor recognition copy, impact reports, and newsletters that communicate gratitude and show donors the tangible results of their giving.
- Assist in the creation of segmented messaging to personalize outreach for different donor audiences.
Event Support
- Write promotional materials for fundraising and prospecting events, including save-the-date announcements, invitations, web copy, engagement materials, and program content.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with development, program, marketing, and communications teams to ensure donor messaging accurately reflects organizational priorities and impact.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, journalism, public health, or related field preferred.
- 2 years of paid experience in copywriting, journalism, fundraising, nonprofit marketing, or related communications work (excluding unpaid internships and volunteer roles).
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for donor audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage deadlines, and balance multiple priorities.
- Collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented team player.
- Passion for health equity and commitment to Binaytara’s mission.
Preferred
- Proven experience writing for a donor audience, such as crafting integrated fundraising appeals, donor cultivation letters, or stewardship materials.
- Experience working in or writing for nonprofits—especially in health, global health, international development, healthcare equity, or related fields.
- Experience with email marketing (such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, SendGrid or similar tools)
- Experience with graphic design and tools such as Canva.
Working Conditions
- This position is office-based in Bellevue, WA.
- This is an in-person role, not hybrid.
- Travel may be required 2–4 weekends per year for events.
